Helping Our Kids Acknowledge, Feel and Heal From Grief & Loss

Did you know that things such as losing an important ball game, having a friend move, or misplacing a toy can cause a real sense of loss and grief for a child? Usually when we think of grief we think of the big things such as death and illness. But little things to us as adults can cause big grief in a child.

As parents it isn’t necessarily our job to soothe our children, attempting to rush them through feelings and mask the pain. It is our job to be there to help them recognize and acknowledge what they are experiencing, express their feelings in appropriate ways, take action for healing, and reconnect with their changed world.
